| MONROE GROUP PRINCIPAL NAMED ONE OF DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL’S FORTY UNDER 40 |
Date of Release: 03/07/2008 Denver, CO- Hud Karshmer, Principal of Monroe Group Ltd. is recognized this month by the Denver Business Journal as one of the top “Forty Under 40.” The 12th annual list highlights forty business leaders under the age of forty who demonstrate leadership in business and make outstanding contributions to the community as a whole. Karshmer is one of forty young business leaders honored out of 225 nominations. Karshmer has been a Principal at Monroe Group since 2004. In addition to oversight of operations, Karshmer focuses on developing and executing the company’s strategic plan including capitalizing on growth opportunities in new and existing markets. Monroe Group Ltd is a leading real estate management firm with a portfolio of 23 multi-family properties totaling 2,084 units. Its properties include Project Based Section 8, Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and mixed-income developments in Colorado, Indiana, Texas, North Carolina and Missouri. Since joining the Monroe Group in 2004, Karshmer has grown the company from 10 employees and annual revenue of less than $2 million to 120 employees and annual revenue of about $20 million. Karshmer also founded Monroe Group’s sister company, Steele Properties, in 2006. As a Principal of Steele Properties, Karshmer has acted as a developer in over $100 million in real estate transactions. In addition, Karshmer shows his dedication to the Denver community through his work with the non- profit organization, Community Housing Concepts (CHC). CHC was founded by Karshmer in 2005 and is dedicated to increasing the quantity and quality of housing opportunities available to low income families and individuals by creating, acquiring, rehabilitating and preserving affordable housing units; and to promoting neighborhood stabilization and revitalization efforts by improving the quality and availability of housing alternatives for people with limited means. Under Karshmer’s direction, CHC has created/preserved affordable housing options for almost 1300 families, seniors, and people with disabilities and has invested over $12 million in improving these affordable housing units. Today Karshmer continues to volunteer as President of CHC. Karshmer is also a former member of the board of directors of Housing Justice, a non-profit organization that educates diverse faith communities and mobilizes them to join and give voice to the struggle to secure decent, affordable housing for all. Further, Karshmer extends his own spirit of volunteerism by encouraging his employees to participate in paid “Volunteer Days” where employees have the opportunity to spend a day volunteering for non-profits such as Habitat for Humanity. In his spare time, Karshmer enjoys coaching Little League Soccer.
